HYOGO PREFECTUAL MUSEUM OF ART

Designed by Tadao Ando, this museum is a masterpiece in architecture, let alone the largest museum in West Japan. Having inherited the works collected by its predecessor, this museum changes its permanent exhibit three times a year by selecting from its collection of some 8,000 works done predominantly by local artists. The museum also plans and stages large exhibits of works loaned from abroad and other parts of Japan, as well as its own exhibits of modern art.

How to get there: About 8 minutes on foot from Hanshin Iwaya, about 10 minutes on foot from JR Nada, about 20 minutes on foot from Hankyu Oji Koen, and about 13 minutes by Hanshin Bus (to HAT Kobe) and about 16 minutes by Kobe City Bus No. 101 or 29 (both to Bijutsukan Mae) from JR Sannomiya.
Closed: Monday (Tuesday if Monday is a holiday), standard new years holidays. Closed 30 minutes earlier than usual hours during maintenance.
